Don’t Fall Into Allergy Season Unprepared

For many people allergies seem to be a year round problem. While summer and spring are commonly associated with allergy related symptoms, fall months can be just as bad due to the increased amount of pollen in the air. This post will help identify common fall allergens that cause discomfort and tips on how to shake those seasonal sniffles!

Ragweed: Ragweed is your worst enemy when it comes to fall allergies. WebMD declares it the #1 allergy trigger for fall months and states that it can travel hundreds of miles from plant to nose. One way to help eliminate the remnants of this tyrant is to start removing your shoes before entering the house.

post-mold

Mold: Not commonly associated with allergies, mold can actually play a huge role in your seasonal suffering. Mold often increases during the months that see more rainfall. The Mayo Clinic describes mold allergy symptoms as the body inhaling tiny airborne mold spores and recognizing them as foreign invaders. The body then develops allergy-causing antibodies, such as histamine, to fight them off. These antibodies are what cause symptoms such as itchy, watery eyes, runny nose and sneezing.

post-flu-season

Flu Season: Flu and allergy symptoms can often times be very similar. A person who self diagnoses can run the risk of taking the wrong medication and improperly treating the problem. Allergies that are left untreated can cause sinus and ear infections, and even sinusitis. The Allergy and Asthma Foundation of America list primary differences between allergies and the flu.
